This Saturday marks the longest period of daylight of the year and is known as the Summer Solstice. The summer solstice occurs when the tilt of the earth's semi-axis is most inclined towards the sun. This is the time that the sun reaches its highest point as seen from the north or south pole. In the northern hemisphere, this occurs every year between June 20th and June 22nd.
RidgeGate has planned a hike up to the Bluffs trail summit led by Skot Latona of South Suburban Parks and Rec from 7:30 to 9 pm on June 21st. This is an opportunity to enjoy a casual hike with your friends or family and to learn about the history of the summer solstice and how it has been celebrated in different cultures.
