The Gaylord Rockies Hotel and Convention Center finally broke ground in January. This $800 million resort and convention project is expected to generate incredible growth and opportunity for the City of Aurora and beyond to Denver and all of Colorado.
Eight banks, led by Wells Fargo, have committed to loans totaling $500 million to finance the project. Construction is expected to last almost three years, with an anticipated opening date of Thanksgiving 2018. Gaylord Rockies is expecting to hire 10,000 workers to complete the project.
The 1,500 room hotel located 10 minutes from Denver International Airport will employ 2,500 permanent workers once it opens. The convention center will feature 485,000 square feet of first class meeting space, 8 dining options, a spa and salon, indoor/outdoor pools, and 20,000 square feet of outdoor covered space.
Aurora Economic Development Council CEO Wendy Mitchell said she expects Gaylord Rockies to attract 450,000 new visitors annually and contribute $273 million in new money to the state's economy each year.
