The Regional Transportation District, RTD, has recently received an official notice about the completion of the University of Colorado A Line from Denver Union Station to Denver International Airport. Construction is estimated to be finished in April 2016 with an opening date of April 22.
The new A line is 23 miles long with new electric rails and will serve 8 stations. It will also feature new cars that are faster than the light rail with 79 mph compared to 55 mph, and also bigger, accommodating up to 200 people at a time. Developers promised to make the cars more accessible for travelers with luggage as well.
This has been a long time coming. The $2.2 billion project could not have been realized without the support of local RTD Tax, a federal grant of $1.03 billion and $450 million from Denver Transit Partners. It will mark a historic milestone towards the completion of RTD’s FasTrack program.
