The Kassler-Dunklee Mansion is historically significant for its close association with two prominent Denver families, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin S. Kassler and Mr. and Mrs. Edward V. Dunklee, all of whom have made outstanding contributions to various civic, political, philanthropic, and social organizations in the city, state and nation. In 1916 Kassler, a widely-known Denver financier, became president of Denver Union Water Co. remaining there until November 1918 when the firm was purchased by the City of Denver for $14,000,000. In 1919 Kassler became president of California Electric Power Co. Also, Kassler was a director of the Colorado Telephone Company, later to become Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. An avid golfer, Kassler was a founder of Denver and Cherry Hills Country Clubs. Edward V. Dunklee, born in 1888, and his wife purchased the home in 1948. Many important events and social gatherings continued in the home. Mr. Dunklee was active in Democratic politics and guests included Eleanor Roosevelt who wrote her newspaper column in the Sunroom. Adlai Stevenson was a friend and frequent visitor. The home has an extraordinary floor plan ideal for entertaining. It has grand room sizes and wide, open hallways and staircases. Many features of the home are ones favored in the design of new homes today! Newer Kitchen, updated wiring, plumbing and state of the art Buderus G 205 heating system. Many original fixtures!
